In this session, we will look into some of the unique solutions these start-ups offer, in terms of the market needs they address and the uncertainties with which they are faced.

Beth Havinga is passionate about supporting a lead in the change, development and growth of positive tools and strategies that enable a stronger, more interoperable education experience. She believes in the need for a more networked education environment and is excited to connect industry leaders in technology, global publishers, startups and governments through her work to build robust and innovative solutions. With over 15 years in the education industry, she is dedicated to improving the education space.

Originally a high school teacher, Beth has managed publishing houses and education software companies in Europe, founded her own startups, and continues to support a wide variety of education organisations through her company, Connect EdTech. Beth works with large tech corporations, education publishers, governments, ministries of education and education startups globally, supporting them in education policy, digital implementation, and development and market strategies. As a specialist in the digitisation and interoperability of education systems, Beth is currently on the expert committee of the Austrian Ministry of Economy, Research and Science, and is also the executive director of the German Alliance for Education. Additionally, Beth is a stakeholder in EDUvation, a business angel company supporting education startups based in Germany, complementing her work with StartEdTech.

Norbert Morawetz

Dr Norbert Morawetz is a creative business academic and digital entrepreneur. Prior to joining Henley Business School, Norbert built up and ran the largest entrepreneurship programme in the UK at the University of Hertfordshire, for which he received the National Enterprise Educator Award from the UK Higher Education Academy.

He is the founder of ed-tech startup potential.ly, where he fuses psychology and technology to enhance personal development, collaborative learning and employability.

Norbert's research focuses on technology entrepreneurship, psychometrics, team analytics, online education and economics of creative industries, especially the film industry.

As a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Henley Business School, he teaches undergrads and MBAs and looks after the BA Entrepreneurship as UG Programme Director for Entrepreneurship.

CalmusComposer - a Software for Music Creation and Modern Education in Composition

CalmusComposer

Kjartan Ólafsson (1958) graduated in 1984 from the Reykjavík College of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in composition. He continued his studiesin Holland at the Institute of Sonology and later at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. Kjartan received his Licentia doctorand (PhD) from the Sibelius Academy in 1995.

Since 1988, Kjartan has been developing a composing system based on Artificial Intelligence technique called CALMUS (Calculated Music), which is a computer program especially designed for music composition.

Among works composed by Kjartan are pieces for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, electronic music, orchestral works, concertos and music for various theatre productions. His Viola Concerto received the Icelandic Music Award in 2002 as the composition of the year.

From 2005- 2014 Kjartan was Professor of Composition and Theory at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Now he is the CEO and head of research at ErkiTónlist sf and teacher at the University of Iceland.

Prior to co-founding KnowledgeFlow, Bruno Koninckx (°1968) worked as a researcher, free-lance project manager and trainer. His main focus in all of these activities is on digital & mobile media and innovation.

Within KnowledgeFlow team Bruno is responsible for business development, project management of the KnowledgeFlow implementation at our first customers and taking the lead in the marketing & communications activities for KnowledgeFlow.

Since 2003, Bruno has worked part-time as a researcher at Thomas More University College, focusing on applied research projects in the fields of e-government, digital & mobile media and innovation.

From within his own company, DigitArte bvba, he helped companies and organisations with digital innovation regarding knowledge sharing and collaboration. Out of these activities, he has developed the knowledge sharing and e-learning system, KnowledgeFlow, together with Wouter Van den Bosch.

Prior to these activities, Bruno has worked as a digital media and technology journalist for over 20 years. He worked for national media as De Tijd, De Standaard, Radio 1, Studio Brussel, Focus & Weekend Knack, Kanaal Z and Canal+ television, Data News, Business ICT and HR Magazine. At the beginning of his career, Bruno worked a few years as a free-lance tester for Didascalia, one of the first e-learning companies in Belgium.

Vilborg holds a BEd in Education from the University of Teaching in Iceland and an MSc in Strategy and Management from the University of Iceland and the University of Business Administration in Aarhus, Denmark. She worked as a lecturer in Management and Strategy at the University of Iceland from 2006-2009. She is a regular lecturer in universities in Iceland sharing her experience with business students and she is also a common speaker in the educational sector in Europe. Besides, she was at the board of Promote Iceland from 2010 to 2013 and the chairman of the board from 2013-2016 and member at the board of Federation of Industries in Iceland from 2009 to 2015.
